Even though the cold and flu symptoms are forever present, we can still try being healthy from these viruses. The cold and flu season never seem to stop no matter where you are in this world. Here in this article you will learn the importance of good health during the cold and flu season, some symptoms of cold vs. flu and last but not least some natural alternatives other than over the counter medicines and/or prescriptions.
Why Being Healthy Is Important
We as adults know that being healthy is very important to a good life. Sometimes things interfere with this thought like catching a cold or the flu and take us out of our normal thinking pattern of good health. When we are healthy we tend to think better and feel better about ourselves in a whole versus when we are sick. We know that sometimes no matter what we do viruses attack our body and we have to fight back, so lets begin to do it naturally without no addictive side effects.
The Cold & Flu Season
The cold & flu season seem to always be around but it usually starts around October, peaks between December and February and can last into May according to the CDC(Center For Disease Control And Prevention). While the flu spreads every year, the time and severity and length of the season varies from one season to the next. As of this date(4/1/2019) the CDC states that the influenza viruses are still circulating and will continue for several more weeks. This flu season has been officially going for 21 weeks, according to reports collected through last week and released Friday(4/19/2019) by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. That makes it among the longest seen since the government started tracking flu season duration more than 20 years ago. The previous longest recent flu season was 20 weeks, which occurred in 2014-2015.
In mid-February, a nastier strain started causing more illnesses and driving up hospitalizations.
Not helping matters: The harsher bug is not well matched to the vaccine, said the CDC’s Lynnette Brammer, who oversees flu tracking. More good news: Brammer said that although the virus is notoriously unpredictable, signs suggest this flu season should be over soon.
“It’s on the verge” of being over, she said. “If nothing changes.”
The Cold Vs. The Flu
Even though the cold and the flu are both respiratory sicknesses, they are caused by different viruses. The flu is more severe than a cold and is caused by the Influenza Virus. The symptoms of a cold are runny or a stuffy nose, sneezing and some coughing and will gradually appear, but generally does not result in serious health problems. On the other hand with the flu the symptoms are abrupt and includes a fever, aches, chills, fatigue, coughing, sneezing, chest discomfort, sore throat, runny or stuffy nose and headaches. Even though they share some symptoms the flu is much worse and can sometimes lead to other health problems like turning into pneumonia. Most people who catch the flu will recover in a few days and no longer than two weeks.
